Neutral typeface

The Neutral typeface was Kai's graduation project from the KABK undergrad course. It is an inquiry into the nothing of neutrality in graphic and type design, a meditative and serendipitous search that encompasses Zen Buddhism, tea ceremonies, modernism and archetypes.

“Semi-scientific” average calculations of important key proportions in typefaces provided a framework in which this – by declaration completely neutral – typeface was drawn.

Additionally to the book and typeface shown here, the project has its own website, where some of its other parts can be viewed: A poster collection, comments/discussions and photographs of its various exhibitions and presentations.
